Career research Template

I have chosen a career research template as my second piece of evidence as a believe it is important to have a plan for your future. Proper research into your desired field is essential to create a career path for yourself. For example, my own career path will hopefully lead to a graduate program at Shell. However, to achieve this it is essential I obtain certain qualifications to obtain my place. This is why research is so important, perhaps upon the completion of the research you decide it is actually unfeasible or the job won’t meet your financial needs etc. It is better to find this kind of thing out now rather than 3 years down the line. It is also important as with the knowledge of career path you can create mini goals for yourself, involving short-term, mid-term and long-term goals. As to achieve your desired career may be a lengthy process and can become discouraging over time.    

Linkdin Profile

I have chosen to create a Linkdin profile as my first piece of evidence because I believe in this ever-growing globalised world we must use and cultivate social media to grow our professional self’s. The creation of this profile will assist with my future business career. Use of the site I can promote myself through the ability to display my skills and qualifications as well as things like the option to publish documents such as articles. Perhaps one of the most useful tools I will use is the ability to build up contacts. Digital networking is far more used nowadays as it allows us to develop industry contact worldwide. This will be far more convenient for myself as the industry I wish to entry is a global industry mostly based in large city of commerce such as London. I can join related groups such as Dundee University or Shell group page and converse with people of similar interest. As the energy industry is extremely popular with graduates but the places are limited it may give me a competitive advantage to build up contact. As the saying goes its not what you know, but who you know.       

Section 3 placement Reflective   

My personal experience over my internship has been enjoyable, informative and overall a beneficial learning experience. Coming from previous management roles in retail and sales, I was confident in most aspects of my management skills such as my ability to manage a team and delegate task effectively. However, having previous knowledge on what to expect in regards to the strong management team in place at Grosvenor did make me slightly apprehensive about measuring up. Even the thought of spending my days in the managers shared office, an off limits sanctum of theirs, was a daunting feeling, somehow like I was going to be trespassing. Thinking about it now I can see it was unfounded self-doubt and apprehension. During my days with the team, I couldn’t be made to feel more welcome or included, with even other managers going out their way to teach me and allow me to observe them during their daily activities. Perhaps one of the more pleasant experiences of my time there was the comradery between the various managers, we are given a always professional persona mostly however, in the office were they can relax slightly there was a genuine sense of team bonding something I never realised I would want in my future career. The entire experience has challenged my perspectives of what management is. Before I based business management entirely on my own experience, a solo experience obtained while working in the independent retail sector, where you carried the entire business on your shoulders. This was not entirely a negative thing as the narcissistic side of me revelled in the complete control. Looking back on my internship experience however I can see the difference and overall benefits of having a strong team around you. Even though undeniably the experience has benefited me, I would not sate it has impacted my career choice for the future drastically. My career aspirations are to obtain a position in the energy industry, hopefully securing a place in a graduate scheme with a company such a shell, after hopefully obtaining my degree and possibly considering a masters accreditation in managing in the energy industry. The next step for myself is to begin researching the energy. From different sectors to possible future paths, green energy or new oil discovery’s. I will accomplish this via appropriate reading materials and company research. Future planning for myself will begin with me searching for an appropriate internship related to the field I wish to enter. My search will start at the beginning of 3^rd year and hopefully I will be able to secure an internship placement for my summer of 3^rd year. This is a significant step on my career path as an internship in the energy industry or a related field will give me vital knowledge, understanding and above all the experience that most employers look for. This future internship may even itself produce a possible career path through building up my contacts in the industry.    

Evidence piece two

I have chosen this piece of evidence because it shows various skills I used and developed such as teamwork as the information had to be collected face to face with every department before being compiled. As well as a developed understanding of financial figures. This is our weekly brief distributed to all managers and departments. It contains relevant information for each department and information relevant for other departments to know, such as offers, VIP players, health and safety and company updates. Most importantly it provides the weekly financial information for each department and if they have reached target as well as a casino total. I was responsible for collecting and compiling the information and was given the appropriate financial reports.

Unfortunately, due to recent changes to GDPR certain financial info as well as anything containing privilege info or names had to be retracted in this template as it cannot be shown outside the casino.

Evidence piece three

This short PowerPoint was given at a meeting of DD one. DD One is a private sector-led partnership group whose agreed objective is to encourage representatives of both the private and public sectors to act together to develop the economic potential of Dundee City Centre. During my 3^rd day we hosted a meeting of the DD one in which I attended. Here I was given the opportunity to develop my management persona as the event was attained by various Dundee businessmen/woman as well as a few city councilmen. We were given a presentation on the proposed addition of cycle/pedestrian routes to Dundee city in an effort to boost foot fall and cash in on the pedestrian pound. This was an interesting event which was great for me to practice networking and the opportunity to hear others prospective of Dundee business was fantastic opportunity.
